470 Days of Genocide, Global Complicity, and Palestinian Resilience

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

Today marks the beginning of the ceasefire in Gaza after 470 days of hellish genocide and destruction. Words fail to describe the legendary resilience of this formidable people and their resistance, which fought until the last moments across the entire Gaza Strip, even in Beit Hanoun, which was utterly destroyed in the far north of the Strip.

Today, Gaza breathes a sigh of resilience and dignity for the first time in 470 days despite the tears of sorrow for the martyrs, the wounded, and the missing. Nevertheless, the Palestinians declare to the world: We remain here, and we will rebuild Gaza despite the Zionist extermination machine and its supporters from the United States and its subservient regressive Arab regimes.

Today, after more than a year of killing and destruction, Israel fails to achieve its self-declared goals. Here is Netanyahu, who vowed to end the resistance, reluctantly accepting a ceasefire agreement that includes everything the resistance demanded: the return of displaced people to the north, the withdrawal of the occupation army from the Netzarim and Salah al-Din axes, the opening of crossings for humanitarian aid, and the release of thousands of prisoners from Gaza and the West Bank.

We must acknowledge that the failure of the occupation and its genocidal criminal regime to achieve its declared political goals does not necessarily mean the resistance has won this battle. It is essential to free ourselves from short-sighted concepts of victory and defeat, especially with events of such magnitude as the flood and its consequences that will not end soon. Resistance movements have experienced periods of flourishing and retreat over the decades, as is the case with all national liberation movements against colonialism, such as the experiences of Algeria and Vietnam, where resistance forces faced harsh defeats but always kept the flame of struggle alive, even if it sometimes dimmed. The phrase “You are not defeated as long as you resist” is not just a slogan but represents a core revolutionary strategy.

The Al-Aqsa Flood has shown us indisputable facts:

The road to Jerusalem passes through Cairo and all Arab capitals. Jerusalem’s liberation cannot be achieved as long as the Arab capitals remain under the rule of puppet regimes that conspire with the occupation. Arab regimes’ support for the Zionist entity has not stopped at any level. Had the Arab countries, especially Egypt, used their political and economic influence sincerely, the aggression could have been stopped at the start of the war. However, the complicity of these puppet regimes prevented this.

Political repression, tyranny, and neoliberal impoverishment go hand in hand with normalization. Tyrannical regimes use normalization as a means to preserve their power and suppress any opposing voices, depriving their people of support for the Palestinian cause. At a time when Israeli violence reached its peak with the genocide, widespread Arab solidarity was at its lowest due to repression and restrictions. While widespread boycotts in Egypt were at their peak, the Egyptian comprador bourgeoisie continued its economic relations with the occupation, transporting goods to Zionist markets. This confirms that our struggle for economic and social liberation is at the heart of the struggle for liberation from colonialism.

We are witnessing a new, more brutal phase of American imperialism and its arms. The United States, along with Europe, supported the genocide in Gaza. Biden’s decision not to stop the war revealed the lies of his administration’s propaganda about being unable to stop the genocide. This confirms that support for the Zionist killing machine is an integral part of this phase of American imperialism. Trump, on the other hand, spoke openly about “Israel’s need to expand,” and the donations from the Zionist lobby to his campaign for annexing the West Bank predict that the difference between him and Biden is in degree, not in kind.

The Al-Aqsa Flood is part of a long struggle, and the complete liberation of Palestine requires the continuation of popular struggle. This battle is linked to the struggle of the Arab people against tyranny and their political and social freedom. Every space we gain today on this path is a step toward supporting the resistance.

Palestinian resistance and its resilience are not a sudden emergence but an extension of a long struggle. This resilience results from tireless organization and continuous sacrifices, the most important lesson for us and all fighters. There is no alternative to building organizations, fronts, and collective work.
The Oslo Authority’s complete submission to the occupation’s dictates proves that reform from within is impossible. This authority, in turn, suppressed resistance in the West Bank and participated in pursuing the resistors. The situation even reached coordination with the Israeli army to bomb the Jenin camp. While Gaza was being exterminated, the authority supported the entity, arrested the resistors, and thwarted all attempts at popular mobilization, maintaining its role as the occupation’s police force.

The setback suffered by the resistance in Lebanon is linked to its relationship with despotic regimes, especially its support for the fallen Syrian regime. This support lost the resistance much of its popularity and exposed it to the Zionist enemy, leading to devastating losses.

We now enter a new phase of the conflict, where the influence of the Iran-Hezbollah axis is retreating. At the same time, the U.S. administration seeks to impose a new Saudi-Israeli normalization agreement with the participation of the Egyptian regime. The upcoming battle will focus on the West Bank, where settlement expansion is rising with the U.S. administration’s backing and Trump’s return to the presidency.

We have no choice but to rely on ourselves. Today and not tomorrow, we must bear the historical responsibility, rebuild our organizations, and unify our ranks in factories, unions, and workplaces. We must intensify popular relief campaigns, convoys of donations, and boycott campaigns against Egyptian and international companies cooperating with the Zionist entity. We must support legal campaigns against Israeli occupation soldiers worldwide.
Every step toward real democracy in Egypt is a step toward the complete liberation
