After ignoring doctors’ demands for years, President Sisi today decided to increase the medical professions allowance by 75%, equating to 525 EGP for doctors and 225 EGP for nurses.
This meager increase comes when medical staff are valiantly responsible for facing the COVID-19 pandemic with weak and deteriorating resources due to years of neglected health spending.
The medical staff, those who face danger every moment today, deserve genuine appreciation from the state and society. The least that can be offered to them is what they have long demanded: an increase in the infection allowance, which remains a disgrace at 19 EGP, to at least 3000 EGP.
