Sudan: The Counter-Revolutionary Council Shows Its Teeth, and the Revolution Prepares for a New Round

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

Since the early hours of this morning, Sudanese security forces have been relentlessly firing live bullets at protesters holding a sit-in outside the army’s general headquarters, demanding a transfer of power to civilians. Reports suggest dozens of martyrs and injured individuals, while the Forces of Freedom and Change call for street marches in neighborhoods, cities, and villages to protest the bloody crackdown on the sit-in. Calls for a civil disobedience campaign are spreading.

After weeks of lies, defamation, threats, stalling, failed negotiations, and repeated attempts to suppress the sit-in, the Sudanese military council, backed by the notorious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias, stormed the revolutionaries’ sit-in. This treacherous attack was orchestrated by General Burhan and his criminal aide, Hemeti, the RSF commander, and their men. One significant reason for the timing of this attack is the success of the recent general strike that swept across Sudan.

This attack follows the Sudanese military council strengthening its ties with regional forces opposed to the revolution, which cannot tolerate any uprising in the area. Upon assuming power, Burhan rushed into the arms of his allies in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, who provided him with economic and intelligence support to suppress the Sudanese people’s revolution, determined to achieve civilian rule.
The valiant Sudanese revolution, which endured Bashir’s tyranny until his overthrow, remains steadfast in its demand to end military rule and transfer power to civilians. While the military may have stormed the sit-in, the revolution is far from over, and this criminal act does not mark its end. The Sudanese Professionals Association has announced an escalation to a comprehensive civil disobedience campaign in response to the attack and to intensify pressure on the criminal military council clinging to power.
