June 18, 2019After the Slow Murder of the Former President: Thousands of Prisoners at Risk

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
From the very beginning, the military regime led by El-Sisi has been persecuting its opponents, even those who were once part of it or close to it, and the deep state, such as Anan and Shafiq.
It was expected that the counter-revolution, which killed hundreds during the dispersal of the Rabaa sit-in early in its tenure, would continue to target all its adversaries from various factions.
Although we, the Revolutionary Socialists, have always disagreed with the Muslim Brotherhood and the regressive ideas they represent, what happened to Mohamed Morsi—from his ousting on July 3 until his death yesterday—can only be seen as systematic murder by the El-Sisi regime. This began with constant visitation bans, six years of solitary confinement, and persistent denial of medical treatment, ultimately leading to his death through medical negligence.
We must emphasize that the trial of Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s first elected president, lacked any semblance of justice from the start. All the charges against him were mere acts of retribution by the counter-revolution. This does not mean his tenure was free of serious mistakes that warranted accountability, but it should have been under fair investigation and trial conditions. The counter-revolution that protected and pampered Mubarak, El-Adly, and their associates in hospitals before acquitting and releasing them all will never be a part of the justice we all seek.
We, in the Revolutionary Socialists movement, call on all honorable people from every faction opposing the authoritarian El-Sisi regime to work towards saving the thousands of detainees at risk of suffering Morsi’s fate—whether through solitary confinement or medical neglect—particularly Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, Ahmed Douma, and Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, among others whom the regime is pushing towards death.
