Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
The Egyptian people were taken aback when the Zionist entity announced its plan to host a celebration at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, right in the heart of Tahrir Square. This is the same square where revolutionaries gathered in September 2011 to storm the den of terror known as the “Israeli Embassy” in Giza, a place they viewed as a symbol of oppression. Located near the Arab League, which frequently proclaims its support for the Palestinian cause without taking meaningful action against the occupation, the celebration was intended to mark the Palestinian Nakba and the occupation of Arab Palestine.
The Zionist occupation further provoked the Egyptian people by announcing that dozens of diplomats, politicians, journalists, and writers had been invited to the event and that the Egyptian government had given its approval for the celebration.
This event coincided with the Return Marches in Palestine, which began on March 30th and led to 49 deaths and 6,000 injuries, all caused by the occupation forces’ violent response to the Palestinian protests. This incident delivered another blow to the Palestinian resistance and showed a clear bias towards the occupation against the demands of the Palestinian people.
For Egyptians and the rest of the Arab world, this celebration was a stark reminder that revolution is the only way to rid their lands of the occupation’s representatives and to stop the ongoing normalization process with the malignant cancerous entity led by Arab rulers like Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. It was the revolutionaries, after all, who stormed the embassy during the revolutionary wave, set part of it ablaze, and threw its documents into the streets, forcing the Zionist entity’s ambassador to leave Egypt. Their actions halted normalization for four years—the most extended period the embassy remained closed since Egypt’s president signed the so-called “peace agreement” with Israel. However, when the counter-revolution, embodied by the Sisi regime, tightened its grip on power, these suspicious activities resumed, and the ambassador returned in the same month he had been expelled, though in 2017. Since then, Sisi has been promoting increased normalization under the guise of “warm peace,” eventually allowing the occupation to celebrate its seizure of Arab land.
The “Revolutionary Socialists” movement strongly condemns this celebration and calls on all political and revolutionary forces to renew their solidarity with the Palestinian people, boycott the Zionist entity, and publicly shame those who attended the event.
