April 14, 2018No to the Aggression on Syria

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
The American-British-French aggression on Syria is yet another crime by American imperialism and its allies. The Syrian people are already suffering under the brutal dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad and his Russian and Iranian backers, and now their misery is deepened by airstrikes from America and its partners. The bodies of Syrians and their devastated cities have become a battleground for regional and international power struggles. Washington and Moscow, Riyadh and Tehran—everyone is contributing to the suffering of the Syrian people.
We often forget that there was once a revolution in Syria, led by people from all walks of life, demanding freedom and the downfall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. But Assad chose to start a civil war to cling to power and crush the revolution. He would rather burn the country than give up his rule.
The Egyptian regime uses Syria’s civil war as a warning to justify its coup and dictatorship, claiming it saved Egypt from a similar fate. But the truth is just the opposite. Like Bashar, Sisi is willing to sacrifice his people to stay in power. Now, he is planning to change the constitution so he can remain president for life, just like Bashar al-Assad. It wasn’t the revolution that sparked Syria’s civil war—it was the dictatorship. The revolution was the only hope for ending the sectarian regime and building a democracy.
As for this latest aggression by America and its allies, it’s all too reminiscent of the invasion of Iraq in 2003. The same justifications, the same lies, the same level of hypocrisy, and the same killing and destruction in the name of humanity. Meanwhile, Russia and Iran, with their hands stained with Syrian blood, continue to spread lies and justify their actions in defense of a regime that has killed and displaced millions.
Down with the American, French, and British aggression on Syria.
Down with the Russian and Iranian military intervention in Syria.
Down with Bashar al-Assad.
No to Moscow, no to Washington.
Freedom for the Syrian people.
