Only Resistance Can Defeat ‘Balfour’

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

The 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration they have coincided with a Zionist attack on a resistance tunnel in Khan Yunis, Gaza, and Britain’s celebration of its notorious promise. This starkly illustrates how the global capitalist system and imperialist powers remain committed to their oppressive policies, particularly against those who dare to resist.

British Prime Minister Theresa May’s celebration of Britain’s historic wrongdoing, the “Balfour Declaration,” alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, highlights the global establishment’s ongoing support for Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land. May’s words, “We are proud of the role we played in establishing Israel, and we will certainly celebrate the centenary,” along with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson’s praise for Balfour, where he called the declaration “indispensable for the creation of a great state,” underline their continued endorsement of Israel’s economy—a system that thrives on exploiting Arab nations’ resources and bolstering Zionism and global capitalism.

Britain’s backing of the Zionist regime isn’t just symbolic. It also included canceling an investigation by the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Commons into Britain’s policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, an investigation whose findings were expected to be released on November 2nd, right on the centenary of the Balfour Declaration.

Britain’s policies, as the architect and celebrator of the Balfour Declaration, alongside those of other global imperialist powers, have only encouraged Israel to continue its brutal crimes against the Palestinian people, subjecting them to a century of relentless terror.

What’s even more treacherous than Britain’s stance are the actions of the Arab regimes, which have gone out of their way to serve Israel’s interests. Chief among these is Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s regime, which consistently promises to safeguard peace with Israel and protect its security from legitimate resistance efforts. Sisi’s regime continues to enforce a blockade on the Palestinian people in Gaza and desperately tries to disarm the resistance and eradicate it from its land.

The Revolutionary Socialists stand in full solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle against Zionism and occupation. They affirm that armed and popular resistance—both within Palestine and in opposition to regimes allied with Zionism—is the only way to defeat the occupation and restore Palestine’s borders to what they were before 1948. They call on the Palestinian people and resistance factions to unite under the banner of resistance, ignoring the hollow promises of regional leaders who have betrayed the cause and are pushing for normalization with the occupiers.
