In solidarity with the Sufis and the people of Sinai

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

The Revolutionary Socialists Movement strongly condemns the horrific massacre that recently took the lives of hundreds of worshippers, leaving many dead and injured at Al-Rawda Mosque in Bir al-Abed, North Sinai.
This mosque, home to the Jaririya Ahmadiyya order and one of the most significant Sufi mosques in Sinai was filled with worshippers from the village of Al-Rawda, nearby areas, travelers on the international road (Al-Qantara East – Rafah), and workers from the salt quarries and the Nasr Saline Company. The attack is yet another instance of violence targeting people based on their religious identity, much like previous assaults on Copts and Shiites, with repeated threats and attacks against Sufi leaders and sites in Sinai.
Despite the harsh laws imposed by the Sisi regime on the Egyptian people, including the Emergency Law, terrorism continues to wreak havoc, leaving the people of Egypt—especially those in Sinai—caught between two forms of terror: state-sponsored terrorism and armed extremist groups.

The Revolutionary Socialists Movement believes that state terrorism only paves the way for the rise of sectarian armed groups. When the state shuts down public spaces, suppresses non-violent political movements, and detains thousands without justice, it extinguishes any hope for meaningful change or a true victory over terrorism. This mix of injustice and hopelessness creates fertile ground for the spread of extremist ideas, fueling sectarian violence and identity-based killings.

We also caution against the ongoing media exploitation of these tragic events, which could be used to justify the regime’s plans to displace the people of Sinai or to introduce new repressive measures that further restrict public freedoms, benefiting only terrorism and dictatorship.

The Revolutionary Socialists Movement stands in full solidarity with the Sufis and the families of the victims. We urge all revolutionary forces to come together to abolish these oppressive laws and fight for the reopening of public spaces to save Egypt from all forms of terrorism.
