Our Battle is Not Over… Down with the Disgraceful Agreement

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

It was no surprise to anyone that the counter-revolutionary parliament, with lightning speed and an almost unanimous majority, approved the agreement to relinquish the islands of Tiran and Sanafir to the patron of Egypt’s counter-revolution, the Saudi regime.

This agreement, which guarantees the Saudis warm relations with the Zionist enemy, the approval of their American sponsor, and support for the counter-revolutionary regime in Egypt, has become undeniably clear as an integral part of the ongoing counter-revolutionary project in Egypt and the region since 2013. The counter-revolution was not merely aimed at extinguishing the revolutionary fervor that erupted in 2011 but also at reshaping the region to secure the interests of imperialist powers and ensure the stability of the oil monarchies, far from the fluctuations in regional circumstances. The agreement sought to integrate Israel into the region by ending Egyptian sovereignty over the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba and linking it to direct coordination with the Saudi regime and the Gulf oil emirates.

The resistance displayed by the revolutionaries since April 2016, even under the harshest conditions Egypt has faced since the Mamluk era, has clearly proven that the revolutionary flame—despite the storm of the counter-revolution—still burns in the hearts of the revolutionaries and will not be extinguished by repression and tyranny.

The farcical parliamentary vote on this agreement grants it no legitimacy and does not make it a fait accompli. On the contrary, the struggle against the counter-revolutionary regime and all its institutions is now inseparable from the fight against the agreement. The very agreement that reunited the comrades of the square, whom the counter-revolution succeeded in dispersing, is now tied to the fate of the entire counter-revolution.

Sisi’s parliament’s vote does not conclude the battle; it opens it wide, making overthrowing the counter-revolutionary regime essential to bringing down the disgraceful agreement.
