May 8, 2017Together in Support of the Prisoners’ Strike

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
It has now been twenty days since the start of the Palestinian prisoners’ strike (Dignity Strike) in the occupation’s prisons, which began on April 17, 2017. Thousands of prisoners have chosen hunger strikes as their weapon to stop the occupation’s violations and oppressive practices against them.
At a time when the region is going through its darkest moments, with hope and vision fading, the Palestinian people rise once again with a new uprising led by their prisoners in the hateful prisons of the occupation. This uprising serves as an inspiration not only for Arab nations but also for free people around the world. Through a powerful and well-organized hunger strike—described by many as legendary—more than 1,700 prisoners across more than ten prisons are participating.
Despite the brutal wars, settlement expansion, and the siege imposed on the Palestinian people—alongside new colonial projects such as the so-called “Deal of the Century” promoted by the United States and its allies in the region—the imprisoned leadership deliberately chose this moment to break the state of decline and subservience, insisting on the values of freedom, justice, dignity, and independence, despite all the systematic fascist efforts to suppress them.
The undersigned at this moment declare:
Their full support and solidarity with the prisoners’ demands (ending solitary confinement, halting administrative detention, stopping medical neglect, providing the necessary healthcare, and ensuring regular family visits with dignity), as these demands represent the bare minimum of their fundamental right to freedom. Accordingly, the undersigned have agreed on the following:
• Full support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land is the only way to foil forced displacement projects.
• Immediate release of all prisoners.
• Renewed calls for boycotts, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) to isolate and delegitimize the Zionist regime.
• Lifting the siege on the Palestinian people and permanently opening the Rafah border crossing for individuals and goods.
• They are pursuing Zionist war criminals in local and international courts for their crimes against the Palestinian people, especially their prisoners.
• They are issuing a call to all honorable journalists and free media outlets to support the prisoners and advocate for their just cause in defense of their dignity—and ours.
• It is combating terrorism by eradicating its extremist roots embodied in the Zionist religious extremist model, which contradicts human values, international laws, and human rights and which has taken root in Palestine for over seventy years, continuing to commit murder, terrorism, oppression, and apartheid.
• We are amending educational curricula to include the history of Zionist fascism and Israeli massacres against the Palestinian, Egyptian, and other Arab peoples to foster generations capable of resistance.
