To the Comrades in the Bread and Freedom Party: We Stand with You Against the Frenzied Security Crackdown… The Path of Struggle Is Not Paved with Roses

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

In recent weeks, we have witnessed the military regime escalate a fierce security crackdown targeting young activists, with dozens of comrades from the Bread and Freedom Party at the center of it. In addition, Khaled Ali, the party’s founder and a former presidential candidate, is under investigation on frivolous and fabricated charges.

These arrests aim to suppress opposition voices, both organized and independent, that have grown louder—whether in rejection of the regime’s economic policies or in opposition to the shady deal to cede the islands of Tiran and Sanafir to Saudi Arabia. These voices are also rising in preparation for the 2018 presidential election, with Khaled Ali emerging as a potential candidate.
We, the Revolutionary Socialists, declare our solidarity with the comrades of Bread and Freedom in the face of this campaign. We stand with them, fully aware that the struggle against a repressive military regime is not paved with roses.

We affirm that prison will never deter those who dream of a better tomorrow and that the regime’s attempts to plant despair in the hearts of the youth are destined to fail.
To the comrades of Bread and Freedom, we recognize the sacrifices you are making and pledge to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you in every step you take to confront this campaign.
