May 18, 2017Freedom for the Detainees: Your Tyranny Won’t Intimidate Us

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
The military regime continues its security raids, targeting young activists across the political opposition. Students, in particular, are being singled out in an attempt to disrupt their academic year by charging them with posting on Facebook as part of an effort to suffocate what little space remains for political opposition after almost every other outlet has been shut down.
These crackdowns are happening as the regime braces for a volatile summer—a regime that has made the lives of the masses a living hell and shamelessly warned them to prepare for a new wave of price hikes on essential goods and services starting next month in fulfillment of its agreements with international bodies. At the same time, the regime is preparing for a presidential election, which promises to be different from previous ones due to the growing public and political discontent directed against it.
These developments coincide with new regional realignments, including plans to form an Arab-Zionist-American alliance in Riyadh in the coming days, with Trump attending. These realignments include dangerous concessions, such as the handover of Tiran and Sanafir to Saudi Arabia and efforts to impose a resolution to the Palestinian cause that squanders the blood of millions of martyrs to serve the interests of the U.S. and Israel.
Meanwhile, the regime has turned to militias in Sinai to confront ISIS fighters, who have openly declared their intention to target the Copts. This not only exposes the regime’s defeat in Sinai but also opens the door to catastrophic scenarios. In this context, recent arrests are being carried out to silence opposition voices—which are faint but steadily growing.
The regime deludes itself into believing it can impose stability while maintaining poverty, repression, and servitude to Zionism and imperialism. However, the millions who are starving, unemployed, and yearning for freedom—even if their voices seem faint—will not stay silent for long.
Likewise, the political forces determined to achieve change and break the chains of political and economic repression will not be intimidated by the regime’s brutality.
It is now more urgent than ever to build the broadest possible political and social front to confront tyranny and defend our political and social organizations.
We also call for joining forces with the growing global movements that are rising to resist far-right regimes in France, the U.S., Latin America, and beyond.
The Revolutionary Socialists affirm their solidarity with all detainees and demand immediate release. We are committed to continuing the struggle against repression and impoverishment in workplaces, universities, professional unions, and public spaces nationwide.
Armed with history lessons, we know that repression cannot bring stability. As the saying goes, “Those who rely only on security are left exposed.” We must recognize that this is a long struggle, marked by ups and downs, but the victory belongs to those with endurance, clear vision, and practical strategies rooted in connection with the people.
No prison has ever killed an idea… No repression has ever been delayed tomorrow.
