November 1, 2016In Solidarity with the Moroccan People: Mohsin Fikri’s Case Is a Cause for the Oppressed Everywhere

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
The Revolutionary Socialists stand in solidarity with the powerful protests that erupted across Morocco last weekend in response to the horrific crime committed against Mohsin Fikri. Mohsin, a young fish vendor striving to make an honest living, was crushed to death in a garbage truck alongside his goods on the orders of a security official. This brutal tragedy highlights the systemic injustices in Morocco’s policies, particularly those governing marine resources, which benefit a small group of local and foreign capitalists while neglecting the basic needs of the people and depriving the youth of stable employment opportunities.
This uprising by the Moroccan people demonstrates that the revolutionary spirit ignited across the region is still alive. Despite the brutal efforts of the counter-revolution to suppress change, the hopes and struggles for justice persist. The protests in Morocco are the latest spark in a broader wave of revolutionary movements, continuing the legacy of uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Syria, and Libya. Although reactionary forces sought to extinguish these movements, Morocco’s protests reignited hope, inspiring resistance across the region and beyond.
We salute the Moroccan masses for their bravery and offer our deepest condolences to Mohsin Fikri’s family and all Moroccans rising for social justice, dignity, freedom, and accountability for this heinous crime.
As we mourn Mohsin’s loss, we also take pride in the unity of Moroccan workers, youth, and oppressed communities standing together to demand justice and honor his memory. We strongly condemn this barbaric act and call on all revolutionary and progressive forces in Morocco to intensify their efforts, mobilize resources, and strengthen unity among the oppressed and exploited. This solidarity is the only way to confront systemic injustices and prevent such tragic crimes in the future.
We also call on all revolutionaries and advocates for change in Egypt to express solidarity with the Moroccan people’s struggle through every available means.
Long live the struggle of the Moroccan people for justice and dignity!
Long live international solidarity among all peoples fighting oppression and capitalism!
