Student Movements Express Solidarity with Students of the Tenth of Ramadan Institute

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

The undersigned student organizations express their full support for the campaign led by the student movement at the Higher Technological Institute in the Tenth of Ramadan City. The campaign demands the dismissal of Dean Hamdi Shehab, citing opposition to the renewal of his tenure and dissatisfaction with his administrative policies, which are viewed as harmful to student interests. Additionally, concerns have been raised about mismanagement and exploitation at the institute, including the following:

1. The dean allocates a bonus of EGP 30,000 from funds intended to support students’ military service obligations instead of using these funds to improve laboratories, sports facilities, ambulances, contracts with hospitals, or the internal clinic.
2. Imposing additional fees on students who fail courses.
3. Restricting student activities and denying access to the conference hall while allowing it to be rented out for private school events.
4. An insufficient number of teaching staff leads to monopolization of course materials by professors, scheduling conflicts, and delays in student registration.
5. Failure to fulfill previous promises, such as renovating the Civil Engineering building.
Most recently, on Sunday, Dean Shehab submitted a memorandum to initiate an investigation against Ahmed Marwan, the president of the Students’ Union at the institute. This memorandum is widely perceived as retaliation for Marwan’s involvement in the student campaign calling for the dean’s dismissal. On Monday, Marwan was investigated on allegations of leading the student movement and distributing materials without following proper legal procedures for such inquiries.

We stand in full solidarity with the Tenth of Ramadan Institute students and their union president, recognizing their efforts to advocate for student rights and their active role in the student movement. Student unions play a critical role in representing the voice of students and supporting their demands through peaceful, constructive action.

We strongly condemn the dean’s punitive measures against the union president for fulfilling his responsibilities. Students can demand improvements in their educational environment without fear of administrative harassment.
We call on students from universities, institutes, and student organizations nationwide to join us in supporting the rights of the Tenth of Ramadan Institute students and their union president in their pursuit of justice and better educational conditions.
