The “Popular Campaign to Protect the Land” Condemns the Arrest Campaign by Security Forces and Warns of Its Consequences

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

The “Popular Campaign to Protect the Land” expresses its strong condemnation of the arrest campaign carried out by security forces over the past two days, targeting dozens of young people and university students in various governorates. This represents an attempt at a preemptive strike against the peaceful protests planned for Monday, April 25, aimed at defending Egypt’s land and rejecting the ceding of Tiran and Sanafir islands to Saudi Arabia—a blatant violation of the Egyptian Constitution.

The campaign and its affiliated forces warn of the grave consequences of this arrest campaign, which can only heighten tensions and anger among large segments of citizens committed to defending their land and using peaceful means to express their opinions. It is worth noting that the protests held across various Egyptian governorates on Friday, April 15, were peaceful, without any acts of vandalism or clashes with security forces. On the contrary, it was these security forces that initiated the pursuit and detention of young people, fabricating false charges of violating the Protest Law, despite many being arbitrarily arrested from cafes and public places.

We demand the immediate release of all detained young people and students, an end to all forms of security and administrative harassment against them, and a clear commitment from the Ministry of Interior to refrain from interfering with the peaceful protests scheduled for Monday, in which the campaign has announced its participation. We hold the authorities fully responsible for the safety of those detained and demand the protection of the peaceful protests on April 25. Furthermore, we insist that no harm comes to any of the participants, as our goal is to safeguard this nation and protect its interests, not to fuel further tensions and unrest.
