The Regime Wants to Eliminate the Nadeem Center… Stand in Solidarity

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists

The recent decision by the Ministry of Health to shut down and seal the Nadeem Center once again exposes the institutions of the military state, whose sole function is to serve the security apparatus and the ruling regime. A Ministry of Health that has utterly failed in its duty—whether by providing quality healthcare to citizens, protecting its workers from police brutality, or even through its complicity in the crime of medical neglect in prisons—has found nothing better to do than execute a security order to close a clinic dedicated to rehabilitating victims of torture. This is a blatant attempt to silence the voices of victims, cover up the regime’s crimes, and pave the way for their terrifying expansion.

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s regime, which has committed the most heinous crimes of murder, enforced disappearance, extrajudicial execution, and torture, wants to bury all evidence of its atrocities. The decision to shut down the Nadeem Center is a declaration of intent to continue these crimes and escalate them in the coming period. This comes as part of the regime’s broader plan to impose extreme austerity policies on Egypt’s poor—policies that include wage cuts, soaring prices, and the privatization of public services. These measures will inevitably face popular resistance, and the regime has already made up its mind: it will crush this opposition with bloody military repression. This is why they want to silence Nadeem. They want their crimes to pass unnoticed. They want to weaken the resistance of people experiencing poverty and suppress opposition to austerity.

The Revolutionary Socialists declare their complete solidarity with the Nadeem Center and reject the security decision issued by the Ministry of Health to shut it down. We stand with the voices of torture victims and call on all democratic and revolutionary forces, along with labor and professional unions, to unite in solidarity and defend the Nadeem Center—the stronghold of our collective physical safety.

Long live the struggle of the Nadeem Center… Down with the rule of torture!
