September 20, 2015Statement from the Revolutionary Socialist Students – 10th of Ramadan Institute The Administration of Corruption

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
The administration of the Higher Technological Institute on the 10th of Ramadan frequently repeats the claim that the institute is a non-profit educational institution aimed at community and urban development. However, the treatment students receive from the various administrative bodies—starting with the Board of Directors and the General Assembly, passing through the dean and his staff, the student registration office, and even the academic departments—proves this claim is a blatant lie. Students face obstruction and bureaucratic resistance when seeking solutions to their problems, while the administration offers nothing but delaying tactics and meaningless verbal promises.
For years, at the start of every semester, students attempt to register for their courses only to find that many classes are already complete due to limited slots. When they confront department heads about this, they are told there aren’t enough faculty members to accommodate all students. But is this the students’ fault?!
The reality is that the hourly wage offered by the administration to teaching staff is significantly lower than what other universities and institutes pay. Who would agree to teach for such a meager salary? And if students’ tuition fees—which are cheap—are not being spent on improving the quality of education, where is the money going?
Then, there are the long-standing technical failures of the institute’s online registration system. The server used for student registration cannot handle more than 2,000 students at a time, while the institute itself enrolls over 11,000 students. Despite five years of repeated requests to upgrade the system, the administration has done nothing but implement temporary fixes and make empty promises that the issue will be resolved during the semester. Even though the student union submitted a full proposal with a detailed upgrade plan and cost estimates, the administration completely ignored it. Once again, we ask: Where is the students’ money going?
We have not even begun discussing the more significant, unresolved issues that the administration always hides behind long-term excuses, claiming that “a comprehensive plan is needed for these projects.” However, no tangible steps have been taken toward implementing these supposed plans. These neglected problems include:
• Deteriorating buildings, especially the Civil Engineering Building, which the administration promised to renovate two years ago.
• Outdated and insufficient laboratories that no longer meet educational standards.
• Neglected healthcare services, despite repeated promises to improve them by equipping the institute’s clinics, hiring competent doctors, and purchasing an ambulance.
But the administration’s failure to invest in students’ education wasn’t enough. It went further by issuing a mandatory decision-forcing new students to purchase books and study materials, adding the cost to their tuition fees. This is a blatant attempt to extract even more money from students. If this isn’t about profit, then what is it?
For these reasons, we, the Revolutionary Socialist Students – 10th of Ramadan Institute, fully support the student union’s statement and emphasize that the only way to resolve these issues is through student mobilization and continuous pressure on the administration. We also stand in full solidarity with all student protests and movements on the first days of the academic term.
All power to the students!
