May 23, 2015Statement No. 3 from the Student Movement at Ain Shams University Faculty of Engineering: The State Terrorizes Students

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
This morning, students across Egypt witnessed the rape on the university campus at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University. Central Security Forces besieged the campus with the full approval of the faculty administration, which welcomed police officials inside the university grounds—playing a role it had failed to fulfill in managing the faculty’s affairs.
Armed formations surrounded defenseless, unarmed students who had no means of resistance—students who came merely to sit for their exams under the threat of weapons. What kind of university is this? What kind of education is that? This is state terrorism.
An administration that seeks refuge behind armed militias out of fear of its students is an administration unworthy of their trust. We demand that you clear yourselves of complicity in the murder of Islam. Yet, you spared no effort in loudly and unequivocally declaring that you do not care about any student.
We will not demand your resignation because resignation in such moments is an honor that cowards like you do not deserve.
It is enough for us to say:
“You have fallen in our eyes and will never rise again. From this moment on, it is no surprise that you cover up the killing of our colleague. Go to the dustbin of history—you will not be mourned.”
To our fellow students—the fuel of our battles past, present, and future—as we assured you in our first statement, our unwavering commitment to reclaiming Islam’s rights does not lessen our concern for your safety in the slightest. Therefore, we suspend our on-the-ground escalatory actions for your protection. However, our media and legal battle will continue, and we will escalate our case internationally. We will not limit our legal action to the Ministry of Interior alone, but we will hold the entire Egyptian regime accountable.
History does not forgive cowards for their betrayal. We have never been cowards. We will persist on our path to reclaiming our colleague’s rights—with no retreat or turning back.
Fellow students, we have begun contacting civil society organizations, human rights groups, and local and international media. We will pursue them in every forum, and our memory will haunt them in their dreams and waking hours. Be our strength in this fight.
And finally, to the faculty administration:
One day, the university will be freed from its occupation, and when that day comes, we will exact upon you the most severe reckoning. This is our vow to you. The tides of time are ever-changing, and tomorrow is near for those who await.
