January 24, 2015The Cowardly Regime Assassinates Shaimaa

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
This is a regime that trembles every time the anniversary of its greatest defeat approaches—January 2011—when the Egyptian people rose and toppled the head of the regime, delivering a lesson the Interior Ministry’s thugs will never forget.
No matter how hard they try to deceive us and the public with their lying media—spreading the falsehood that January was a conspiracy—we see the truth in their fear. Their terror speaks volumes as they deploy hundreds of thousands of security forces and Interior Ministry thugs to suppress any popular movement on the revolution’s anniversary—even a peaceful march carrying flowers, like the one organized by our comrades in the Socialist Popular Alliance Party, which was brutally attacked by the police with live ammunition and birdshot.
It was during this peaceful protest that they assassinated the young poet and activist Shaimaa El-Sabbagh—the courageous daughter of Alexandria, who stood steadfastly for workers’ rights and who, like all revolutionaries, dreamed of bread, freedom, and social justice. She dreamed of a dignified future for her six-year-old son, Bilal. But under the regime of Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, even the mere act of dreaming was too much to bear.
As we mourn our comrade Shaimaa—who now joins the thousands of martyrs of the revolution—we extend our condolences to all revolutionaries, not only to the comrades of her party. We affirm once more that January was, and remains, a revolution, despite all attempts to assassinate it, distort it through media lies, and crush it with a security apparatus that has surpassed all red lines. The repression has reached unprecedented levels of brutality and bloodshed—under the command of a deranged general who has yet to be satisfied by all the blood he has spilled.
We call upon all who believe in the revolution to stand united in the face of this repressive authoritarian regime, which is dragging the country toward ruin.
