January 5, 2015Down with the Judiciary of Forgery… Down with Military Rule

Statement by the Revolutionary Socialists
Sisi’s Ministry of Justice—a ministry that has never known justice—has issued an order to freeze the assets and properties of several comrades from the Revolutionary Socialists, the April 6 Youth Movement, and Youth for Justice and Freedom as part of a list that includes 112 individuals, accused of belonging to a so-called terrorist organization.
This measure was built on a prior decree issued by the military government, designating the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization—without a single proven conviction or a fair trial. At the time, we opposed and warned that this terrorism charge used against the Brotherhood would tomorrow be turned against all opponents—and now it has.
The comrades affected by the asset freeze—Hesham Fouad, Haitham Mohamedein, Amr Ali, and Khaled El-Sayed—are revolutionary fighters who have devoted their lives, health, and energy to the cause of the revolution and the struggles of the poor and oppressed, of whom they are part. They committed themselves entirely to the triumph of the January 25 Revolution, while others among their comrades remain imprisoned in military jails under torture and arbitrary detention. These comrades have gained nothing from their struggle except state persecution and harassment by its repressive apparatus.
The military judiciary that issued this decision is thoroughly discredited by its fabricated rulings and falsified verdicts. How can anyone trust this system for a moment after Sisi’s own office intervened to acquit a criminal officer who murdered 37 citizens in cold blood inside a prison transport van? How can we believe in judges who sentenced hundreds to death in a single sitting, including in cases involving nothing more than blocking a road?
We know, without doubt, that this judiciary—which acquitted Hosni Mubarak and his gang of thieves who looted the nation’s wealth and the murderers who shed the blood of the people in the squares, which shielded corruption and corrupt officials, shelved torture cases to protect torturers, and became an instrument of oppression against the opposition—is a corrupt judiciary that serves only the counter-revolution and has no connection to justice whatsoever.
We, the Revolutionary Socialists, will continue our struggle until the day comes when the Egyptian people—the poor and the oppressed—seize the assets and fortunes of those who genuinely deserve to be stripped of them: the generals, business people, and judges who amassed wealth through corruption and exploitation. As for the property of people with low incomes—including the comrades targeted by this decision—you seized everything from them long ago. They own nothing, but their lives and freedom—and those are what you are trying to take.
We demand the following:
• The cancellation of all death sentences issued since the military coup.
• The annulment of all verdicts is based on the unconstitutional protest law and the immediate release of all detainees held under it.
• The complete repeal of the protest law.
• The enactment of law guarantees union freedoms and ends repression against independent unions and labor leaders.
• The retrial of Hosni Mubarak and his regime for their crimes of murder and corruption.
Glory to the martyrs… Freedom for the detainees.
